Damijan Močnik is among the most performed contemporary Slovenian composers abroad. His music is performed worldwide by professional and top amateur choirs. Now the S:t Jacobs Kammarkör Stockholm, under the direction of Gary Graden and in collaboration with the composer himself, presents a CD with five of Močnik's sacred choral works, supported by a strings ensemble from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the two percussionists Anders Åstrand and Henrik Ståhlberg.

  • S:t Jacobs Kammarkör (S:t Jacobs Chamber Choir), with the conductor Gary Graden, performs regularly at concerts and services in S:t Jacob’s church and the Stockholm Cathedral. Both located in the heart of Stockholm, are a renowned center for church music in Sweden. The choir has won several of Europe’s most important competitions including the European Choral Grand Prix. The choir has also participated in a wide array of national and international festivals. In 2014, the choir assisted the Rolling Stones at their concert in Stockholm, and later that year they performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at the BBC Proms held at Royal Albert Hall, London, with conductor Daniel Harding. One of the choir’s most important contributions has been the performance and recording of contemporary music.   • Gary Graden was born in the USA and studied at Clark University, the Hartt School of Music, the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and with Eric Ericson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He is a former member and tenor soloist with the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir. Graden is presently the director of choral music in the Stockholm cathedral and S:t Jacobs Church in Stockholm. With S:t Jacobs Chamber Choir he has won grand prizes and first prizes in many of Europe’s most prestigious competitions, including the European Choral Grand Prix. He has also participated in a wide array of national and international festivals and is in demand as conductor, teacher and adjudicator throughout the world. His work as conductor and singer is documented on many CD and radio recordings. Gary Graden was elected Sweden’s Choral Conductor of the Year in 2005. In 2009 he and his choir were awarded the Guidoneum Award from the Fondazione Guido D’Arezzo in Italy. Personal details
  • As a mallet specialist, Anders Åstrand regularly performs and gives clinics throughout the world. With his percussion ensemble, Global Percussion Network, he has toured extensively. Åstrand focuses on melodic and rhythmical improvisation, an essential feature also in his compositions. Åstrand has been commissioned to compose for brass quintets, saxophone quartet, choirs, and big band. A more spectacular side features compositions for ice instruments to be performed by percussion ensemble (one of the concerts also featured fighter aircraft as instruments), tractors, and an entire building being inaugurated. He is a sought-after percussion clinician, but has also led several choir projects both in Europe and in the US.   • Henrik Ståhlberg is a percussionist and drummer. He studied both jazz and classical music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Anders Åstrand and Bengt Stark.
