Sinfonia aus Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra
from: Marc'Antonio e Cleopatra 1725
Johann Adolf Hasse first came to attention in Italy with his early work Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra. This journeyman’s piece already displays many of the composer’s strengths, in particular the melodic beauty underpinned by technical mastery.
The opening instrumental “Sinfonia” traverses a range of different moods, beginning with a lively rhythmic section, followed by graceful passages. With elegance and refinement, it offers a foretaste of the melodic and harmonic qualities that permeate the entire Serenata.
