Digli ch’io son fedele
from: Cleofide (Opera seria) 1731
The opera Cleofide by Johann Adolf Hasse was part of an ambitious plan to revive the art of Italian opera at the Saxon court. The dramatic plot – about Alexander the Great’s conquests in India – is brought to life by Hasse’s brilliant setting.
In the aria “Digli ch'io son fedele”, Cleofide sings of her fierce loyalty to her lover. This heartfelt and deeply passionate musical declaration is heightened by virtuoso coloratura.
