”Freude, Töne, Götterfunken” (libretto: Immanuel de Gilde) is a brand new musical for young people, celebrating Beethovens 250th birthday in 2020. The music was written by the Danish composer, conductor and arranger John Høybye, who has an established name in Nordic choir music life. Høybyes composition is based on well-known themes by Beethoven which are arranged in different ways: combined with well-known styles as Latin, Swing, Bossa Nova, Jazzvals and Samba.

An der Erneuerung skandinavischer Chormusik hatte er als Komponist wesentlichen Anteil, nicht zuletzt durch die gelungene Verbindung des klassischen Chorklangs mit Elementen aus Gospel- und Jazzmusik. 1993 würdigte ihn die Danish Choral Society daher als „Komponist des Jahres“. Sechs Jahre später ehrte ihn die Danish Composer‘s Society mit dem Jahrespreis.
