Wolfram Buchenberg’s setting of Rilke’s Liebes-Lied was originally composed for a wedding. In his poem, Rilke asks about the foundation needed to sustain a love affair, and to represent this, chooses the image of two strings on a string instrument which simultaneously begin to vibrate. The composition draws on this image impressively using the vocal resources.
